Erell and Sara's project “Peau à peau: patchwork de correspondances” focuses on the memory of the AIDS crisis, research they have been conducting together for the past two years. They are continuing this exploration through patchworks/quilts embroidered by relatives of AIDS deaths in Switzerland. Unlike in France, where these pieces are now institutionalized, in Switzerland they circulate in the private sphere, at home and carry a diffuse memory. They are not just objects of memory, but living, political gestures, rooted in friendships, chosen communities and silent alliances. Through interviews, archival research and correspondence with artists, the patchwork methodology will be used both curatorially and artistically to focus on what official history leaves out: femmexs, lesbians and trans women, whose place in the fight against AIDS has been essential yet often invisibilized.
